Ningbo university is a provincially governed key university in Zhejiang Province. It is a Chinese Ministry of Education Double First Class Discipline University, with Double First Class status in certain disciplines. Ningbo University was established in 1986 by the donation of Yue-Kong Pao. Other major benefactors include Sir Run-run Shaw, Sir Chao An Chung (赵安中), Sir Hans Tang, Sir Yue-shu Pao (包玉书), Sir Cao Guangbiao, Sir Li Dashan (李达三), Sir Zhu Yinglong (朱英龙).
In 1996, Ningbo Normal College (宁波师范学院) and Zhejiang Shuichan College, Ningbo (浙江水产学院宁波分院) were merged into Ningbo University.

It is a county-level district under the jurisdiction of Ningbo city in Zhejiang Province of the People's Republic of China. The district's total area is 209 square kilometers, which is the largest subdivision in traditional urban area of Ningbo city (name as Haishu, Jiangdong and Jiangbei). Jiangbei District is famous for its historical sites such as the Old Bund, which oversaw the history of international trade of Ningbo, and Cicheng Town, an ancient town which lasts more than 1000 years. Jiangbei District was founded in May 1951 after the foundation of People's Republic of China.
However, the history of Jiangbei can be tracked back to Gouzhang(句章) City, which was built by Goujian, the king of State of Yue. In the year 621, Gouzhang was separated into Yaozhou and Yinzhou. In the year 738, the land that now belongs to Jiangbei was in the area of Mao(鄮) County. In the year 738, Mingzhou was established and Mao County was separated into Cixi, Fenghua, Mao and Wengshan. The western part of what was Jiangbei now belongs to Cixi County, and the eastern part belongs to Mao (and later Yin) County. In 809, Yin County was also separated into Wanghai County (currently Zhenhai District). From then on till 1951 the land that now belongs to Jiangbei was in the area of three different counties: Cixi, Yin and Zhenhai.
After the foundation of PRC, Jiangbei District was founded as well as another new district called Jiao District. In 1984 these two districts merged into Jiangbei District.
The weather in Zhejiang features a monsoon season, temperate climate, abundant sunshine and rainfall, humidity and typhoons. The average annual temperature of Zhejiang Province is about 18 °C (64 °F), with an average July temperature of 27-30 °C (81-86 °F), and an average January temperature of 2-8°C (36-46 °F). The annual average rainfall of the province is about 1000mm to 1900mm, and its annual average sunshine time is about 1710 hours to 2100 hours.
Usually spring starts in March, with the average temperature between 9-15 °C (48-59 °F), April and May are the best time for visiting Zhejiang. Meiyu Season is from the end of June to early July. In late summer, typhoons occur with a high frequency, bringing heavy rains. September and October feature excellent weather when clear skies and refreshing air can be enjoyed almost every day. In winter, on the other hand, the city suffers from the cold, since most places are not equipped with heating systems.
Lishe International Airport (NGB) lies to the southwest of Ningbo City, 11 kilometers (about 6.8 kilometers) away from the urban area. It was put into use in 1990. Now, the airport has opened up to Hong Kong, Seoul as well as dozens of large and medium cities in China like Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming and Shenzhen.
To get to the airport from the urban area, one could take the shuttle bus.
