About University of Malaya

The University of Malaya is the oldest university in Malaysia situated in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia with a total campus area of 922 acres. The University of Malaya was founded on 28 September 1905 as the King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. On 8th October 1949, it converted to the University of Malaya with the merger of the King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College that was founded in 1928.

The University of Malaya grew rapidly during the first decade of its establishment followed by the setting up of two autonomous divisions on 15th January 1959 one in Singapore and the other one in Kuala Lumpur.

In the year 1960, the government desired to change the status of divisions into a national university. So for fulfilling the desire, legislation was passed in 1961. Then at the last University of Malaya was established on 1st January 1962.

The University of Malaya has a medical center or hospital known as the University of Malaya medical center. University of Malaya medical center is a government-funded medical institution located in Pantai Dalam southwest corner of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The University of Malaya medical center was established as part of the University of Malaya in September 1962. Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaya uses the University of Malaya Medical Center as a teaching hospital. The University of Malaya medical center is Malaysia’s second-largest hospital.

Criteria for students to apply for University of Malaya scholarship:-

  • The candidate must obtain a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.00/4.00 to be eligible for the University of Malaya scholarship.
  • Candidate must not be sponsored by or receiving a salary from any federal, state, or statutory bodies or any other organization.
  • For the University of Malaya scholarship, the candidate must be enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Malaya and completed at least the first semester of study.
  • The candidate must be free from debt with the University of Malaya to be eligible for the University of Malaya scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements for Enrollment in the University of Malaya

  • University of Malaya international students are required National Higher School Certificate (or an advanced level equivalent) with a percentage of 80% or above
  • University of Malaya international students have required a diploma from recognized institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00
  • University of Malaya international students may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selected programs before being accepted by the respective faculties.

English Language Equirements for University of Malaya International Students

  • University of Malaya international students must obtain a TOEFL score of 500 (PBT), 173 (CBT), or 60 (IBT) and above
  • IELTS Band 5.0-6.5 and above
  • Without any of the above English proficiency certificates, students that have been accepted would be issued with a conditional offer letter for subsequent fulfillment of the English Language requirements.

University of Malaya Fees Structure 2023-24

The University of Malaya fees are paid in three different types of fees.
Application Fees: Before submission of the online application, a processing fee of RM 300 must be paid online to the University of Malaya account.
Tuition Fees: Different courses offered at the University of Malaya have different University of Malaya fees. Tuition fees are required to pay on admission day. Other Fees: Other fees include medical checkup fees, insurance fees, admission fees, Visa fees, accommodation fees, etc.
University of Malaya fees for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is Rs. 24.1 Lakh tuition fees.
University of Malaya fees for Master of Business Administration (MBA) is Rs. 3.8 Lakh tuition fee per year.
The University of Malaya fees for Master of Computer Science is Rs. 1.5 Lakh tuition fee per year.
The University of Malaya fees for Master of Management is Rs. 2.6 Lakh tuition fee per year.
