About San Beda University

San Beda University is a 119-year-old private Roman Catholic higher education institution whose College of Medicine was established in 2002 to produce competent medical practitioners. San Beda University also has three more colleges - Arts and Sciences, Nursing and Law.

San Beda University is a private Roman Catholic basic and higher education establishment run by the Benedictine monks of the Order of Saint Benedict in Mendiola Street, San Miguel, Manila, the Philippines. Its main campus which provides tertiary education is situated in Mendiola, Manila. It has a satellite campus that provides elementary and high school education in Taytay, Rizal. The Benedictine College in Alabang, Muntinlupa is known as the San Beda College Alabang. It is an independent institution despite being an affiliate of San Beda University. San Beda was founded in 1901 by monks of the Ordo Sancti Benedicti (OSB) or Order of St. Benedict, also known as the Benedictines. Its founder, St. Benedict, is acclaimed as the "Father of Western Monasticism" and the "Patron of Europe". From its inception, the school was dedicated to the cause of Catholic education and the formation of Christians committed to excellence and service of God and country. It is attached to the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat, founded from the Abbey of Montserrat in Cataluña, Spain.

San Beda started as an all-boys grade school in Manila and given the name El Colegio de San Beda. It has since developed to a full university with both undergraduate and post-graduate degree programs. The institution was given university status on February 6, 2018, making it the only Benedictine university found in the Asia-Pacific region.
